Various functions were held across the Jammu region on Friday to celebrate the 72nd Accession Day.
On October 26, 1947, last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh had signed an Instrument of Accession and consequently the state of J&K had acceded to the Indian union.
While the BJP organised a seminar at its party headquarters, the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, held another function.
At the event organised by the People’s Opinion Forum on the banks of the Tawi, former minister and BJP MLA Choudhary Lal Singh was the chief guest.
Vikramaditya Singh and Ranvijay Singh, grandson and great-grandson, respectively of Maharaja Hari Singh were also present at the function.
Lambasting some people for questioning the accession, Lal Singh said it was irrevocable. “The accession of Jammu and Kashmir to the rest of India is not due to the document of accession. Kashmir was ours since times immemorial. The accession is irreversible and irrevocable,” he said.
Members of the High Court Bar Association decorated various markets in the city and the road leading to the court complex. The function was attended by the members of the association, besides leading members of civil society.
“The association firmly believes that the accession of J&K after the signing of the Instrument of Accession by the then Maharaja is full and final and irrevocable. To raise any dispute in this regard by a few disgruntled elements is to question the very Indian Independence Act under which Pakistan was created and 560-odd princely states acceded to India and Pakistan,” said Bar president BS Slathia.
Meanwhile, Mahmood Shah, Chief Lashkar-e-Taiba, today said that 27th of October is marked as the ‘Black Day’ for Kashmir when the “occupational Indian forces forcibly penetrated their forces into Jammu Kashmir, plunging Jammu Kashmir into 70 years of tyranny”.
In an emailed statement to KNS, LeT spokesman Dr. Abdullah Ghazanwi quoting the chief said, “India has committed mass atrocities, killing millions of innocents. Kashmiris and their sympathizers throughout the world will commemorate the day as the Black Day in the history of Jammu Kashmir.”
“Mahmood Shah appealed to the nation to conduct rallies and protests so as to expose the tyrant face of Indian barbarism to the world. He stated that the Freedom Struggle of Jammu Kashmir continues its journey to its glory. India tried all the possible tactics to seize the indigenous Freedom Struggle but in vain. The prime reason behind the successes is the strong sense of unity and understanding between the nation and Mujahideen.”
He said that braid chopping incidents have exposed “the sick tactics of Indian establishment. India has kept its inhumane behaviors. Modi is continuously supporting the occupational forces and their inhumane acts”.
